Sermon delivered by Pastor Lori Eickmann. “Waiting” doesn’t sound like something active or particularly joyful—until you know the God of whom the prophet Zephaniah wrote, “Sing aloud…shout…rejoice and exult will all your heart! The LORD has taken away the judgments against you!” This is the same God who came to us at Christmas as a baby in a manger, the One who baptizes “with the Holy Spirit and fire,” and whose advent we await by living our lives in faith and service. John the Baptist said we are to “bear good fruit”—but what does that look like? How do we live in ways that reveal our joyful thanks for the gift of life in Christ Jesus?
